The Medical Society of The State of New York Endorses Hayworth

"Representative Hayworth has consistently taken steps to protect the ability of patients to continue to be treated by the physician of their choice. Her actions make her truly worthy of this endorsement." - Robert Hughes, M.D., President of the Medical Society of the State of New York
The Medical Society of the State of New York, the largest statewide advocacy organization for physicians in New York State, has endorsed Representative Nan Hayworth for re-election, one of the eight candidates running for re-election in the 2012 election to be endorsed by MSSNY. The bi-partisan list of endorsements includes four New York State Senators, two New York State Assemblymembers, and two Congressional Representatives.
"While there are many worthy candidates, the chosen men and women have time after time demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues affecting our health care delivery system and working to assure patient access to quality medical care," stated Robert Hughes, MD a Saratoga Springs ENT and President of MSSNY. "These legislators have consistently advanced policies that protect the ability of physicians to be able to deliver timely quality care to our patients. For these reasons, we are pleased to endorse the following candidates for re-election."
Dr. Hayworth, an ophthalmologist, has worked closely with local physicians and has a strong record of voting and advancing legislation consistent with the priorities of physicians and patients. In 2011-2012, she co-sponsored and voted in favor of legislation before Congress that would enact comprehensive medical liability reform to bring down the extraordinary costs of liability insurance shouldered by many physicians and hospitals. She also co-sponsored and voted in favor of legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), an entity which would threaten senior access to care by potentially imposing huge cuts to Medicare physician payments. Moreover, she has co-sponsored the Medicare Patient Empowerment Act, legislation which would expand treatment options for seniors by assuring some Medicare coverage for care provided by physicians not participating in the Medicare program.
Prior to running for Congress, she was a partner in the Mount Kisco Medical Group, and served as an attending physician at Northern Westchester Hospital. She also served as an Instructor and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
"Representative Hayworth has consistently taken steps to protect the ability of patients to continue to be treated by the physician of their choice," stated Dr. Hughes "Her actions make her truly worthy of this endorsement."
